The wild north.

A coast that wouldn't be tamed. Cap de Creus is the end of a country and the start of an imagination; Dalí read it as geological delirium and made it his mental geography.

The tramuntana holds for three days, clears the air and makes the blue different by the hour. The coves aren't sold in any dictionary: you reach them on foot, often by climbing paths.

A small country, a generous table.

The Empordà at the table is a way of reading the land and the sea in the same meal. Mar i muntanya (chicken with lobster, cuttlefish with meatballs) is this territory's literal signature.

The wine from DO Empordà comes alongside. Family wineries work with old varieties (carignan, black grenache) and a new wave of producers is redrawing the map with low-intervention wines. The table is one of the most direct doorways into the territory.

Villages that remember millennia.

Empúries was the Greek port opening onto the Mediterranean, the first gateway of classical culture into the peninsula. Today you enter on foot, with an archaeologist, and the silence weighs.

The medieval era left villages that haven't dressed up for visitors: Peratallada, Pals, Monells, Madremanya. La Bisbal is still the earthy tone of Catalan ceramics. Each summer, Peralada reminds us that stone, too, can sing.

Summer is the classic, but the low season has a secret — the locals know it. Here are the keys to every moment of the year.

Spring
March–May
The burst.
Short rains, almond blossoms, calm sea. The season to discover the hinterland without heat and without crowds.
Summer
June–September
The fire.
Long nights, warm sea, markets that run late. Our advice: mornings outdoors, evenings at the table.
Autumn
October–November
Harvest.
Forest colours, the first tramuntana winds, restaurants with few guests. The best season for long dinners.

The intimacy.
